Even the most careful homeowner will eventually see their concrete surfaces show signs of aging and damage. The number one cement problem is cracks that reach down to the bottom of the foundation slab.
Nearly every concrete area will have superficial cracks along the surface that stay relatively harmless without cause for concern. Deeper blemishes, however, not only weaken the structure but also trap moisture for longer.
Once the collected water freezes, it forces the cement to pull away from itself, widening the gap and worsening it. Or, if it gets too hot, it will evaporate which is just as harmful to concrete.
That is why, before we begin any advanced flooring work, we always take time to correct issues first. Otherwise, a cement section that already has started falling apart will remain a problem whether we make it look beautiful or not.
